About This Blog

Jazz North of 49 is about jazz music from a Montreal perspective. On the site you will read interviews, CD reviews, concert reviews, the occasional book review, as well as have a chance to check out links to various resources on the Internet. Jazz North of 49 is rooted firmly in the Montreal scene, with an eye and ear towards jazz coming out of the rest of Canada too.

A bit about me.

Montreal is where I was born, it’s where I work, live, love, and it’s where I listen. I am a graduate of Montreal’s Concordia University with a degree in Jazz Studies. As well, I am a former student of the Ryerson University School of Journalism in Toronto.

After listening to a Thelonious Monk compilation album (The Composer) in my late teens, I was perplexed and giddy. I haven’t been the same since. I can always count on jazz to lift me up, challenge my tastes, and open doors to worlds untraveled – North of 49 and beyond.
